Summer Skin Survival Guide: Pro Tips For A Healthy Glow

If you have plans to beach it, lake it, pool it, park it or any other outdoor activity where you will surely soak up lots of sun… here is a list of my top tips for keeping healthy skin all summer long. As well as links to some of my favorite products!
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable
You’ve heard it before, and I’ll say it again – daily SPF is your skin’s BFF. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapply every two hours, especially if you are swimming or sweating. Do NOT forget to apply to your ears, neck, chest and back of your hands.
Lips & eyes
These delicate areas often get neglected. Use an SPF lip balm and wear sunglasses to protect the thin skin around your eyes. A lightweight eye gel with antioxidants or cooling ingredients can help with puffiness and dryness.
Switch to a lightweight moisturizer
If you live in a humid climate, heavy moisturizers can be pore clogging. A fast-absorbing face oil over damp skin or a lightweight moisturizer are enough to keep your skin happy.
Cleanse gently but thoroughly
Sweat, sunscreen and environmental buildup can clog your pores faster in summer. Double cleanse in the evening – staring with an oil cleanser to remove sunscreen and make up and a gentle cream or low foaming second cleanse. If you don't want to oil cleanse, you can use a gentle make up wipe first.
Exfoliate wisely
Exfoliation helps to prevent clogged pores and promotes a smooth glow, but you don’t want to overdo it. Stick to 1-2 times per week and avoid harsh scrubs. I recommended chemical exfoliants with AHAs or BHAs – they are more effective and gentler on the skin. Only exfoliate in the evening!

Protect your body
Keeping your body moisturized and protected with SPF is just as important as protecting your face, but often gets neglected. Using a body oil is a great way to keep your skin moisturized without the slimy feel. Make sure to put sunscreen on your exposed body parts even if you’re just walking around. If you have sensitive skin and are at a pool, lake or beach, don’t be afraid to wear a sun shirt (rash guard)! They make really cute ones now and it’s better to stay protected than getting a bad sunburn. And of course, don’t forget to wear a hat!
Stay hydrated – inside and out!
Hydration is key to plump, healthy skin. Drink plenty of water and electrolytes throughout the day and spritz your face with a hydrating mist when you need a midday refresh. If you’re spending a lot of time in air conditioning, your skin may feel dry – don’t skip your moisturizer even if your skin is oily.
